Located in Nanakramguda among commercial and residential highrises, ASIE – Stories from East is a new restaurant that provides a fusion of an authentic collection of spices from across Asia, including China, Japan, Thailand, Korea and more.
Opened in May 2023, the restaurant’s 4,800 sq.ft. area covers an indoor and an outdoor seating area, both infused with a blend of bright hues, distinct decorative items like Chinese lanterns and murals, and soothing music that accentuates the cozy vibe of the restaurant. As we make our way inside, we are welcomed by very friendly staff.
With help from Nani, the manager, we first ordered ourselves the Khow Suey Soup and the Raw Papaya Salad. The Khow Suey, originally a Burmese dish, was tweaked to give it a Thai flavor –cooked as it was with galangal, bird’s eye chilli and lemongrass. It was creamy and with a coconut base, is delicious. The Raw Papaya Salad, made of raw papaya, organic tamarind, fresh carrots, scallions, Thai red chilies and garnished with cilantro, was unlike anything we have had before. It was sweet, spicy and tangy in equal measure.
For the main course we were served the Hot Stone Dolset Bowl, a Korean rice bowl made from kokuho sticky rice, water chestnuts, broccoli, shiitake mushroom, silken tofu and edamame mixed with pepper sauce. The result was highly rich in flavors. The mouthwatering combination of the sticky rice with the veggies and the pepper sauce left us wanting more. The dish was without a doubt our favorite, made richer when we had it with the mocktail, Asie Passion, made with fresh pineapples, lemon, basil and ginger ale. For meat lovers, Asie recommends the Tuk-Tuk Bowl and the Hot Stone Bowl, both items served with chicken and prawns.
We concluded our lunch with a Homemade Ice Cream, which incorporates three different types of ice cream – the first one was infused with roasted basil, the second with cinnamon and the third with coconut. All three melted in the mouth and were incredible, but it was the coconut infused ice cream that was the best. n
